Sharps and Flats

Playing sharps and flats (where notes are higher or lower than normal) becomes easy with Figurenotes. Just move your hand in the direction of the arrow – pointing right moves the note higher, pointing left moves the note lower.

This is much more intuitive than the abstract symbols used in conventional notation. You can start to introduce these at a later stage.

When playing wind and brass instruments, players must learn a new fingering for these notes.

If you come across a sharp or flat within the music, just find the right Figurenotes icon and move your hand in the direction of the arrow. You can see both sharps and flats in Fauré’s Pavane.
